I’m Albert S. Fu an assistant professor of sociology at Kutztown University. I completed my dissertation, “Landscapes of Spanish-Colonial Revival: Visual Culture and Urban Development in Southern California” at SUNY Binghamton. Broadly speaking, I am interested in the way space is socially constructed, and how “culture” creates, defines, and controls urban space. My dissertation examines the historical and political implications of Spanish-Colonial Revival being a part of Southern California’s ‘heritage’ and vernacular landscape. This includes its implementation in architecture, urban planning, and mass media.

More recently, I have been interested in the landscape of the “Global Mediterranean” – e.g. how globalization has spread a particular understanding of the “Mediterranean” around the world. To learn more about interests and my work experience, visit my curriculum vitae.

In addition to being a place to host my C.V. and abstracts of my work, this website is meant to be an exercise in using online and visual tools for teaching and research.
